The Department of Community Investment invites the public to an open house from 4:30-6:30 pm on Thursday, October 9 at the LaSalle Branch Library, 3232 W. Ardmore Trail, to discuss improvements the City is making to the Lincolnway West Corridor.
The event will provide residents and area businesses an opportunity to review plans for changes to lane configurations on Lincolnway West from William Street downtown to Maplewood Avenue, just east of the South Bend International Airport.
Changes coming to Lincolnway West include altering pavement markings in order for the corridor to go from two lanes in each direction, to one lane in each direction with a left-turn lane. Also, as space dictates, on-street parking and bicycle facilities will be added.
Over the coming year, the entire stretch of Lincolnway West will be resurfaced and street trees will be planted.
The improvements are part of the City’s Smart Streets initiative. Smart Streets is an effort to improve how South Bend’s streets contribute to safe, efficient transportation and the overall quality of life. Smart Streets projects utilize the complete streets philosophy, providing equal access to pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit riders.
