It is our mission to spur investment in a stronger South Bend.
We do this by:
- Attracting & retaining growing businesses
- Planning for vibrant neighborhoods
- Connecting residents to economic opportunities
The Department is organized into six teams that work collaboratively with each other to assist the citizens and businesses of South Bend with variety of tasks.
The South Bend Department of Community Investment has been recognized by Harvard Kennedy School's Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation as a Bright Idea originator for its focus on public sector staff leadership training. By engaging an entire city department in the Drucker Institute’s Playbook for the Public Sector leadership-training program, the South Bend Department of Community Investment has created a new dimension of performance in spurring investment in a stronger South Bend. From July 2013 through May 2014, projected investment in the local economy has more than quadrupled over the previous year while unemployment has dropped by 25 percent.
