The City of South Bend Paving Map is a resource for residents and businesses on paving project occurring throughout the city. The interactive map provides information on the estimated start and end dates for a particular stretch of street and includes roads being paved by City crews as well as those by private contractors.
Annually, streets are selected based on an assessment conducted by the City staff using the industry accepted PASER rating system. In this system a rating of 1 indicates a failed road and 10 indicates excellent condition. Based on this rating, approximately 15 lane miles of street that are in the worst condition are selected for paving by City crews. With support from State and Federal funds, the City is able to add additional lane miles of paving each year, awarded to private contractors.
