SOUTH BEND FIRE RECRUIT GRADUATION FRIDAY
The South Bend Fire Department proudly announces the graduation of fourteen firefighters at the Luther J. Taylor Sr. Fire Training Center, 710 E. Sample St., on Friday, February 24th, 2017 starting at 9:15 am. This class is the third group of recruits representing firefighters from the cities of South Bend, La Porte and Michigan City. Four firefighters from Michigan City and 2 from La Porte along with eight from South Bend started their training on September 12th, 2016. The Luther J. Taylor Fire Training Facility allows South Bend instructors to train firefighters from across the greater Michiana area. The recruit academy lasts approximately 21 weeks. The first 15 weeks are devoted to gaining certification at Firefighter level I, II, fire science, hazardous materials, swift water, extrication, emergency vehicle operations, and prevention. The remaining 6 weeks involved training as an emergency medical technician at the basic level, and strenuous physical fitness starts the day for every recruit in the morning throughout the course. Please join Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s representative, Mayor Blair Milo, Mayor Ron Meer, South Bend Board of Public Safety, Fire Chief Steve Cox, La Porte Fire Chief Andy Snyder and Michigan City Fire Chief Randy Novak as they swear in the firefighters from their respective cities.
