Mayor Pete Buttigieg will hold a press conference on Wednesday, October 11 to announce the location of South Bend’s second dog park. The press conference will be held at Rum Village Park at the former site of Safetyville. Speakers will include Mayor Buttigieg, VPA Executive Director Aaron Perri, Councilman Oliver Davis, and Claire McKay Bowen. Attendees are encouraged to bring their furry friends to hear the announcement.
The addition of a dog park is in response to the result of the Park Score and community requests. Planning and community meetings for the new location started in Spring 2017. The new dog park will feature both a separated large and small dog areas as well as a separated socialization area. Other features being considered include a deck, walking path, and amenities for both people and their dogs.
My SB Parks and Trails is a combination of park, trail, and riverfront upgrades that will fundamentally change the landscape of South Bend’s shared green spaces throughout the city. Inspired by the community’s request for an improved parks system, My SB Parks & Trails projects were developed by South Bend residents through thousands of pieces of feedback, hundreds of hours of public meetings, and dozens of resident engagement sessions. More project information and renderings can be found online at www.mysbparksandtrails.com.
