The First Fridays Downtown South Bend July 3 event will feature an evening jazz performance by the Marian Emery Trio and a Classic Car Cruise-In at the College Football Hall of Fame, along with exciting activities and events throughout the downtown business, art, museum, dining and entertainment districts. Catch the Marian Emery Trio as they perform on Key Bank Plaza, corner of Jefferson and Michigan Streets, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. Key Bank Plaza Concerts are free and open to the public. Meet Me on The Island will be taking place from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Century Center and will feature the legendary Duke Tumatoe! $5 for adults, South Bend Museum of Art members and children, 12 and under, are admitted for free. Musicians will also be performing at; Trio's Restaurant & Jazz Club's Outdoor Caf, corner of Colfax Avenue and Michigan Street, Fiddler's Hearth, 127 N. Main St., and LaSalle Grill's, 115 W. Colfax Ave., Rally on the Alley will be taking place throughout the evening.
There's something for everyone in downtown South Bend on the night of July 3. The College Football Hall of Fame will be the place to take in the sights of the Classic Car Cruise-In featuring cars from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Hosted by Still Crusin' Car Club, the classic autos will be on display around the Gridiron. Catch Twister Mike at Barnaby's Pizza from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. as he creates special balloon
surprises for kids of all ages. Later in the evening celebrate Independence Day with firework displays at Coveleski Stadium immediately following the 7:30 p.m. Silver Hawks baseball game and at dusk at Meet Me on The Island, Century Center.
Sean O' Casey's will feature a Pub Chip & Drink special, Fiddler's Hearth is offering a three course menu with brew pairings. The State Caf has an all you can eat homemade Polish buffet and Le Peep is offering special dinner items along with their ever popular breakfast and lunch menu. Back Stage Bar & Grill and Trio's Restaurant & Jazz Club will be grilling up burgers, dogs and brats out on their sidewalk cafs.
Events throughout the arts and museum districts include the New Galleries on Lincoln Way West opening artists' reception for Scott Hatt, Diane Tesler and David Lester Learn, 807 Lincoln Way West. Both the Studebaker National Museum and the Center for History, 201 S. Chapin St., will have $2.00 off the price of general admission.
The Dhanwantari Center for Yoga & Well-Being located at 117 S. Michigan Street will be holding a candle light Vinyasa Yoga Class from 9:30 - 10:45 p.m. Nicholas J. Salon & Spa, 122 S. Michigan St., from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. will offer Aveda products- buy one at full price and get the second product at 50% off. Hair Crafters Day Spa Salon, 602 Lincoln Way East, will offer complimentary chair massages from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. and will be featuring their "INDEPENDENT'S WEEK SALE"- 25% OFF all retail products from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.
First Fridays Downtown South Bend features over 35 participating businesses and takes place from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. on the first Friday of every month. Participating businesses remain open or host special events such as live music, sidewalk cafs, demonstrations, celebrations, receptions and special offerings. Most events are free or at a reduced rate. Future First Friday dates are; August 7, September 4, October 2, November 6 and December 4, 2009.
