As the country celebrates Abraham Lincoln's Bicentennial, South Bend is honored to be the host city for the 2009 Lincoln Highway Association's National Conference.

As the country celebrates Abraham Lincoln's Bicentennial, South Bend is honored to be the host city for the 2009 Lincoln Highway Association's National Conference. During the conference this week, there will be some once-in-a-lifetime events happening and they are available and open to the public. The most exciting is the re-enactment of the historic Military Convoy that will motorcade through the city on June 19.

June 18th 11:30 a.m. | Lincoln Highway Legends Meet the Authors who write about the historic Lincoln Highway and the artists who capture scenes from coast-to-coast along America's Main Street– the nation's first road built for auto travelers from New York to San Francisco! Books and artwork will be for sale
June 18th 1:30 p.m. | MEET RICK SEBAK PBS Pittsburgh: producer of A Ride along the Lincoln Highway presenting his experience while creating the documentary. Mindy Crawford of Pennsylvania will present Preservation Highlights. The Tin Can Tourists of America will present their story about traveling America's two lane roads with their vintage auto trailers.
June 18th 5:15 p.m. | PUBLIC DEDICATION A plaque will be dedicated at the Intersection of the Lincoln and Dixie Highways in downtown South Bend. Sponsored by the IN Lincoln Highway Association and the IN Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. The plaque will be placed on the newly restored American Trust Bank Building at the intersection of Washington and Michigan Streets. Meet descendents of Henry Joy, President, Packard Motor Car Company, who worked tirelessly to create the Lincoln Highway.
June 19th | LINCOLN HIGHWAY DAY PARADE Motorcade from Fairgrounds to Howard Park departing 9-9:15 a.m. Lincoln Highway Day Parade from Howard Park to South Bend Regional Airport departing 10 a.m. Celebrating Lincoln's 200th Birthday. Bring your family out and join us in celebrating Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday with the Lincoln Highway Day Parade. A convoy of historic military vehicles traveling from coast to coast along the Lincoln Highway is reenacting the trip taken ninety years ago, and will be in South Bend for all to enjoy. The convoy will start at the 4H Fairgrounds and will end at South Bend Regional Airport's Military Honor Park. The first transcontinental motor convoy made the journey in 66 days and included Lt. Dwight D. Eisenhower. Presented by the Military Vehicle Preservation Association. View parade route map
