Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc. (NNN)

The Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc. purchases and rehabs homes to sell to low and moderate income homebuyers.  The neighborhood organization works in the area along Portage Avenue, including California Street, Lindsey and Cottage Grove.  For more information visit the NNN Web site at www.nearnorthwest.org or call Karen Ainsley at 574.232.9182.

South Bend Heritage Foundation, Inc. (SBHF)

South Bend Heritage Foundation purchases and rehabs homes to sell to low and moderate income homebuyers.  The organization works on West Jefferson and West Washington Streets and in the northeast neighborhood, including St. Louis Blvd., St. Peter St., Hill St. and South Bend Avenue.  For more information visit the SBHF Web site at www.sbheritage.org or call Jessie Whitaker at 289.1066 extension 204.  Spanish speaking persons call Lolita Anastasio at 289.1066 extension 203.

Housing Assistance Office (HAO)

The Housing Assistance Office provides mortgage subsidies for new construction in the City of South Bend.  HAO also has funds available for areas outside the City of South Bend.  Contact Janet Ditmire at 574.233.9305 for a list of current programs.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County offers home ownership to low income families.  Mortgages have no interest and monthly payments are in the $400-$500 range, including taxes and insurance.  Contact Habitat at 574.288.6967 for information and application or www.Habitat-for-Humanity.org
