Are ALL of your pets (cats and/or dogs) spayed or neutered?

  • All cats and dogs over six (6) months of age in South Bend must be licensed.
  • New residential license is to be issued for a term of one (1) year, commencing with the date of issuance.
  • If you add to your four-legged family at any point, that animal must be added to your license. If it bumps you up to the next fee bracket, you will be asked to pay the difference.
  • Pet Licensing is no longer “Breed Specific.” Pit Bulls are no longer required to have special permits.
  • Pets will be issued a one-time tag. If lost, a new tag can be issued for a $5.00 fee.

NO. Only some or none of my pets (cats and/or dogs) are spayed or neutered.

In South Bend we promote spay/neuter for our pets.
Because your pets are not currently altered, you are not eligible for our enhanced licensing program.
Residential Non-Altered License Fees
  • An unaltered pet is subject to a higher fee structure. However, if the owner wishes to arrange for the animal to be fixed at their expense, they will qualify for the enhanced “altered” pet license fee structure.
  • If your pets are not fixed, you are allowed up to three (3) unaltered animals in a residentially zoned dwelling.
