  ReLeaf - Leaf Pickup

CITY OF SOUTH BEND OPERATION RELEAF

The City of South Bend has announced a bonus round for leaf pickup and is encouraging all residents to get their leaves out for pickup next week.  The 2007 Operation Releaf program was scheduled to end on Monday, December 3.  However, while crews have covered the entire city at least three times, the most significant leaf drop has only recently occurred.  Crews were able to collect a lot more this week than in past weeks, but there is still an abundance of leaves remaining.  As a result, city crews will also be working this Saturday to help in the cleanup effort.

Weather permitting, leaf-vac crews will again sweep the entire city next week.  (See schedule below).  In the event of expected snowfall for Sunday and Monday, the city will conduct both snow removal and leaf pickup.  "We will do our best each day, however, if there is significant snow, then plowing will be the priority and a new leaf pickup schedule will be announced," stated Sam Hensley, Director of Streets.

Once more, everyone is encouraged to rake their leaves as soon as possible, gathering them at the curbline, but not in the street.  As always, the city will continue to pick-up bagged leaves, again at the curb, on the regular trash pickup day.
