The Geographical Information System (G.I.S.)

The Bureau of Wastewater
- Facilitates the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater.
- Responsible for the operation of the treatment facility, which is a conventional activated sludge plant, the interceptor sewer system, the combined sewer overflow (CSO) system and the remote sewage lift stations
- Administers the Residential Sewer Insurance Program

The South Bend Water Works

Supplies safe, quality drinking water to 122,000 customers in the City of South Bend and its surrounding unincorporated areas

The water utility reads water meters and generates a bill each month that includes water, sewer, trash and recycling charges

Customer Service staff answer all customer related inquiries and the emergency field service provides 24 hour coverage
-
The utility maintains over 520 miles of water main, 42,000 water meters, four filtration plants, eight well fields and four water storage facilities which hold a total capacity of 17.5 million gallons of water

Purchases, maintains and repairs all of the automobiles, trucks and specialized motorized equipment in the City's fleet
