An Opportunity to Learn about Local Government in Action.
The Legal Department coordinates an opportunity for local residents to learn about the City of South Bend from the inside-out. Participants will explore different aspects of City Government, gaining a unique perspective on a 21st Century City in action.

SESSION I PUBLIC WORKS
Wednesday, April 2nd – April 23rd
5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Topics will include: Public Works, Street Department, Sewer Department, Trash and Organic Resources, and Water Works
SESSION II PUBLIC SAFETY
Thursday, May 1st – May 22nd
5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Topics will include: Police Department, Prosecutor and the Courts, Code Enforcement & Animal Control, and Fire Department
SESSION III QUALITY OF LIFE
September - Exact Dates to Be Announced
5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Topics will include: Community Development Bus Tour, Economic Development / Building, Coveleski Stadium, Parks and Recreation, and Morris Performing Arts Center
SESSION IV ADMINISTRATION
October - Exact Dates to Be Announced
5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Topics will include: Mayor's Office, Legal Department, Human Rights, City Clerk & Common Council, and Administration & Finance

Mission Statement:
The mission of the South Bend Local Government Academy is to provide an opportunity for the residents of South Bend and others to learn about the operations of the City and the work done by South Bend's public employees, and to encourage and enhance citizen participation in the planning and processes of the City.
Goals:

To provide participants with the opportunity to learn about the operation of the City, including public works, administration, entertainment and recreation, community and economic development, and public safety.

To allow participants to become familiar with the work performed on their behalf by City employees and officials through visits to facilities, presentations, reading materials, and hands-on learning experiences,

To encourage increased participation in local government processes.
