Neighborhood Improvement Projects offered through the City of South Bend's Division of Engineering:
- Good Neighbors/Good Neighborhoods 2008 Curb and Sidewalk Program
This project has been very successful for the past 14 years helping residents and business owners replace the Curb and/or Sidewalk along their property. Work on this project is typically done from April through October, but applications are accepted throughout the year. Please click on the above link for more information.
- 2008 Lamppost Lighting Project
The City of South Bend has helped light up neighborhoods by assisting residents install lampposts in their front yards since this project's start in 2004. With over 350 lampposts installed, we are happy to bring this program to you again in 2008. Please click on the above link for more information and an application.
- Downspout Disconnect Program
Some older homes have downspouts that drain rainwater from gutters into the ground, which goes through the combined sewers. On heavy rain days, these combined sewers cause overflows, called CSOs. To help protect the environment and local waterways, the City of South Bend offers a free annual summer program to disconnect those downspouts, cap the drainway, and add an extension to the downspout so the water drains into your yard instead of the combined sewer. Work on this project is performed during the summer months only. Please click on the above link for more information.
