Council Member Ann Puzzello is beginning her 4th year of her 4th term on the South Bend Common Council.  She served on the Council from 1984 through 1995; and was re-elected in the general election in 2003 for another 4-year term. She resides with her husband, James, at 1247 East LaSalle, South Bend, Indiana 46617.  Ann "loves South Bend and being part of the decision-making process." She especially enjoys helping people in her district so that they may receive the many good city services, and working for safe neighborhoods.

Ann served as Council President in 1989 and 1993; has served as Chairperson of the Council's Committee of the Whole, and served on many committees which were instrumental in the development of the East Race, Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium, and several other major capital investments in the city.  She initiated ordinances which called for gender correct language to be used, and regulations which restricted the operations of adult businesses by establishing better zoning requirements.  In 2004 Ann utilized her knowledge and understanding of public safety issues when she served on the 2004 City's Negotiating Team.  The Team successfully reached a 4-year collective bargaining agreement and a 1-year wage and monetary fringe benefit agreement with the Union Negotiating Team representing the South Bend Firefighters.

Ann earned her bachelor's degree from Illinois College and her master's degree for IU South Bend.  She was an elementary school teacher at Colfax School from 1966 to 1968, and at Jefferson School from 1985 to 2003.  She also served four (4) years as a member of the City's Board of Zoning Appeals. Council Member Puzzello is actively involved in many organizations such as the Northeast Neighborhood Council Board, Community Oriented Policing (COPS), Friends of the Library and the Liturgy Commission of St. Joseph Church.

This year  Ann chairs the PARC Committee.  She is interested in working to renovate the Conservatories and Greenhouses at Potawatomi Park and strengthen their use for the future.
